Yon Z. Bowlin, age 94, of Chipley, FL passed away from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital. He was born June 29th, 1928, in Bonifay, FL to the late Allen and Sarah (Anderson) Bowlin. He was the youngest of 13 children, being Y.Z. of the "Alphabet family".
He served in the Army from June 1946 to May 1948 as a Mechanic in the occupational forces in Japan and met his future wife as a pen pal during this time.
Yon loved his family and his church, where he taught Sunday School in his early years. His greatest joy was being with his Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. He enjoyed being outside doing projects, taking long walks and "getting fresh air". Yon always wanted to help others and was very kind hearted. Everyone, 2 and 4 legged, loved him dearly.
Yon worked 36 years with the Florida Department of Transportation in Chipley, FL as a Roadway Inspector and Location Survey Technician in Highway Construction before retiring on June 30th, 1990.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Audrey M. Bowlin of Chipley, FL, three daughters, Donna Kay Clark of Chipley, FL, Diana B. Carter and husband Steve Carter of Tallahassee, FL, Deeyon K. Kalil and husband Tanos E. Kalil III of Inlet Beach, FL. Yon is also survived by six grandchildren- Keith Clark (Leigh), Jennifer Morgan (Tracey), Lyle Carter (Laura), Lee Carter (Trisha), Edward Kalil (Emily) and Sarah Kalil. Seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 24th, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Chipley, Fl. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM at the church with the service to follow at 2:00 PM. Reverend Mike Orr will be officiating. Interment will follow immediately at the Glenwood Cemetery.
Brown Funeral Home and Blue Lake Crematory of Chipley, FL is in charge of arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
