Winona Irene (Chesnut) VanLandingham, affectionately known as "Winkie", died at the Signature Healthcare Nursing Home in Chipley on May 6, 2022 after an extended illness.
Our hearts are breaking because she is no longer with us but there is also joy in knowing that she is in heaven. She is pain free and she has seen the face of GOD and the Savior that she loves so much. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon.
Winkie taught school in Chipley for some 30 years. Her students were like her children and she bought clothes etc. for them when needed, made birthday cakes for them, and intervened when needed to protect her children. She was a certified to teach Elementary grade children, children with disabilities, and art. She taught Art Class both in school and in her Art Studio at her home. She was an outstanding cake decorator and baked and decorated all types of cakes, her specialty being wedding cakes.
Winkie loved to write and she produced a book in 2006 that was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize Award entitled, "Chesnut Hill, The Early Years". She related stories of life on Chesnut Hill.
Survivors include: husband, Roger L. VanLandingham of Chipley, FL, son, Roger Lowell VanLandingham Jr. of Tallahassee, FL , sisters: Lorena C. Argo of Marianna, FL, and Fayletta Tinney of Long Island, NY, nephews and wife: Fred L. Chesnut and Lawanna of Dothan AL, Nieces: Maryann Phelan and Susan Hansen of Long Island NY.,
Her ashes will be interred in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley FL. A memorial service will be conducted on May 14 th at 3:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Chipley.
