Vernon (Doc) John Nelson Sr, age 91 of Chipley, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. Mr. Nelson was born September 26, 1921 in Chipley to the late Julius Nelson and Viola (Kent) Nelson. He was a lifelong resident of Chipley, Florida and a member of First Baptist Church of Chipley. Mr. Nelson served in the Navy for 30 years and secretary/ treasurer for the Shriners and also Chairman of the Board of Chipley Housing Authority for 33 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Gladys (McAdams) Nelson. Survivors include his wife Lola (Carlile) Nelson of Chipley, children; Vernon John Nelson JR and wife Judy of Brentwood, Tennessee, Jayne Maine and husband Howard of Panama City, Florida, Frank Carlile and wife Kathy of Gainesville, Florida, Debbie Moss and husband David of Chipley, Florida, one twin brother; Vernon James Nelson of Pensacola, Florida, seven grandchildren; Scott Nelson (Tina), Kristin Siron (Don),Rebecca Nelson, Colby Peel ( Amber), Courtney Stanford (Jimmy), Kari Leigh Winegard (Jason), Alan Moss and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida with Reverend Mike Orr officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at New Orange Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
