On September 20, 2026, Tobatha Davis age 84, passed peacefully in her sleep and entered her eternal home, where her family finds great comfort in knowing she is now at rest in Glory with the Lord she loved.

Tobatha was a force to be reckoned with—in all the very best ways. A fiery redhead with a personality and determination to match, she was one of the strongest women you could ever hope to know. When Tobatha believed in something, she stood firmly behind it, and when something wasn’t right, she wasn’t one to sit quietly by. She was a force for good, loved fiercely, and had a way of making sure things got done.

Education was one of the great passions of Tobatha’s life. She dedicated more than 40 years to serving children and families, teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and also serving as a school administrator. She believed deeply in the power of education and was incredibly proud when her youngest son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, JoBeth, followed in her footsteps and dedicated their own lives to education. Her life’s work became part of the legacy she passed on.

Tobatha also loved an adventure. She traveled to all 50 states and multiple countries and made sure her family shared in that love of seeing the world. And if there was an Atlanta Braves game somewhere along the way, you could be pretty certain Tobatha would find it. She gave her family a lifetime of adventures, stories, laughter, and memories that will continue to be shared for years to come.

Tobatha loved the Lord, her family, education, traveling, her Atlanta Braves, and, of course, the dogs she loved so dearly. She lived boldly, loved fiercely, stood up for what she believed was right, and left an unmistakable mark on the people fortunate enough to know her.

Tobatha was preceded in death by her father, Robert McLendon, and her mother, Ola McLendon. She is survived by her oldest son, James Davis Jr.; her youngest son, Robert Davis and his wife, JoBeth; two beloved foster granddaughters who brought tremendous joy to her life; and three very loved granddogs, Bocephus, Daisy Dukes, and Junebug.

Robert and JoBeth would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and staff of Emerald Coast Hospice, Heart’N Soul Hospice, and Woodmont Senior Living for the kindness, compassion, and dignity shown to Tobatha and their family during her journey. Their care will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Tobatha’s memory be honored through the things she cared about so deeply—children, education, the outdoors, and dogs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Choctawhatchee River Labs youth program or to local classrooms in support of teachers and students.

There will never be another Tobatha. She was fiery, determined, strong, and loved by many. She spent her life teaching, traveling, standing up for what was right, and making sure the people she loved came along for the adventure.

Now, she is at peace and at rest in Glory, and what an adventure it was.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. CST with the service to follow at 10:00 A.M. CST
