Russell Shirley Griffin, age 79 of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 following a brief illness. Russell was born May 7, 1932 in Chipley, Florida to late Theo and Cora Lee Griffin. Russell attended Chipley High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He graduated in 1951. Following graduation, Russell served in the United States Air Force, stationed in England, during the Korean War. He worked for AT&T(Western Electric) in Jacksonville, Miami and Atlanta, Georgia until his retirement in 1989. Russell was an avid fisherman and lure collector. He was a member of the National Lure Collectors Club, Florida Lure Collectors Club and Carolinas Lure Collectors Club. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth Griffin of Powder Springs, Georgia; daughter, Kim (Fawcett) Griffin and David Fawcett of Jupiter, Florida; son, Scott and Heather Griffin of Ayden, North Carolina; son, Tim and Julie Griffin of Norcross, Georgia and seven grandchildren, Caitlin Fawcett, Griffin Fawcett, Taylor Griffin, Kaylee Griffin, Megan Griffin, Annalise Griffin and Joshua Griffin; brother, Loey Griffin of Ocala, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday evening October 14, 2011 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, 1068 Main Street, Chipley, Florida. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning October 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley.
