Obituary

Mrs. Pauline McConnico Davis, 93, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at her home in Blackshear, Georgia. Born in 1917 in Chapman, Ala., she grew up in Atmore, Ala.. She met the love of her life, the late Johnnie E. (Red) Davis at the beginning of World War II. They were married for 67 years, until his death March 27, 2010. Mr. and Mrs. Davis first made their home in Gainesville, where he completed his Ag degree at the University of Florida. Chipley became their home soon after graduation where he became Washington County Extension Agent and she a housewife, raising their son, John Richard, and daughter, Martha. Mrs. Davis, known affectionately to her family as JuJu, became a mainstay in community activities around Chipley. She was active for many years at the First Baptist Church, the Garden Club and was a charter member and active board member for many years with the Friends of the Library. Mrs. Davis loved to play bridge and enjoyed a circle of friendship among fellow bridge players around Chipley for decades, even during later years when she had moved to Blackshear, GA to be near her daughter and family. Many in the Chipley area will remember Mrs. Davis for the 17 years she worked as a teacher's aide at the Roulhac Middle School where she loved being around children.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Fey (Rick), Blackshear; son, John R. Davis (Iris), Greensboro; three grandchildren, Kelly Fey (James Buchan), Richmond VA, Brian Fey (Jenna), Blackshear, Adam Fey (Ashley), Kingsland; brother-in-law, Henry P. Davis, Perry; three great-grandchildren, Brennan, Lauren and Olivia Fey, all of Blackshear. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley with the Rev. Michael Orr officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. the morning of the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to: Hospice Satilla, 317 Plant Avenue, Waycross, Georgia, 31501 or to the Washington County Public Library, 1444 Jackson Avenue, Chipley, FL 32428-1600. Brown Funeral Home of Chipley is in charge of local arrangements.
