Nell Scurlock, affectionately known as "Mama Nell", age 87 of Cottondale, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at her home. Mama Nell was born May 3, 1925 in Slocomb, Alabama to the late Eddie Arthur and Eva (Creel) Hughes. Next to her love for her heavenly Father, her family was her joy and delight. She was forever concerned about their well being and had them continually in her prayers. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a son in law, Raymond Hatcher; three sisters, Agnes Wells, Opal Seay and Martha Miller Sheffield.
Survivors include: her loving husband of 68 years, Arvin Scurlock; her daughter, Margaret Hatcher: sons, Don Scurlock and wife Veleta, Mike Scurlock and wife Marcella, Eddie Scurlock and wife Iris all of Cottondale; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters; one sister, Merrell Scurlock, three sister in Laws, Evelyn Shouppe, Lorita and Faye Scurlock as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Road Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Jackson County.
