Martha Bowen McKnight, born February 15, 1920, in Columbia County, Florida, went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2023 at the age of 103 years. Martha had lived in Chipley for most of her life and always called it home.

She graduated from Chipley High School in 1937, attended Florida State College for Women majoring in journalism and subsequently graduated from a business school 1941. Her career included clerking for Dade and Washington county judges, legal secretary for three attorneys. Her last employment was at the district office of the State Department of Transportation. While there she and her supervisor organized and started the District DOT Credit Union. It is now a full service financial institution with several branch offices.

In 1946 she married W. H. (Mac) McKnight, a World War II veteran and a state trooper. His death in 2004 ended their marriage of 58 years.

She is survived by Richard, Jimmy and Bryan, her three sons, their spouses, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and Bozena, her faithful friend and helper.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church of Chipley.

The memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26th at the First Methodist Church of Chipley.
