Marion Hawthorne Spangenberg, 77, of Chipley, Florida, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Homestead Village, Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Spangenberg was born January 3, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Ernold and Irene Hawthorne. Her early years were spent in Decatur, Georgia and she graduated from Bessie Tift College. She lived most of her adult life in Chipley where she was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Chipley, and taught math at Vernon and Chipley High Schools. Mrs. Spangenberg was also involved in volunteer work with the Scouts, the Council on Aging, and Disaster Relief efforts of the American Red Cross and the Florida Baptist Convention. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Theodore "Ted" S. Spangenberg and five children: Sandra Durr (Jimmie), Ted Spangenberg, Jr. (Barbara), Caryl Fasbinder (Stephen), Diane Corbin (Michael), and Erin Hernandez (Jon). She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Kristin, Ted III, Jo Anne, Mike Jr, Lianne, Melissa, Jessica, Chad, Denise, Katie, Nick, Connie, Christopher, Clarissa, and Clay; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tad, Tyler, Meghan, Alex, Emma, Gabriel, Naomi, Iris, Ava, and Kylie.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 18, from 6:30 – 9:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Chipley. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, at 10:00 AM at the church, with the graveside service to follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Chipley. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School class, the Ruby Daniels Class.
