Louis D. Johns, 91, of Wausau, Florida, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Clifford Sims Veterans Home. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Florida, except for his military service. He was retired from the U.S. Army. He served in WWII in the European Theatre and in the Korean War where he was captured and held as a POW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Cassie Johns, and a sister, Kinie Reeder, brothers, Julius Johns, Levi Johns, Calvin Johns, and Eugene Johns. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lora Mae Miller Johns, daughters Brenda Harris (John), Cynthia Sellers (Bert), and son Louis D. "Buddy" Johns, Jr. (Lynn). He had grandchildren, Terri Austin, Alisha Dunaway (Tim), and Hannah Sellers. Great-grandchildren are Scessalie Austin, Slayde Austin, Madison Dunaway and Dalton Dunaway. He is also survived by a sister, Estelle Simmons.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 11 am at Calvary Hill Church in Vernon, Florida, with Rev. Tim Bush officiating. Interment will be in Ferguson Cemetery near Wausau, Florida. The family will receive friends and visitors on Friday, August 21, 2015, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
