Lola
Carlile-Nelson
Sep 10, 1928 — Aug 21, 2026
Lola Carlile-Nelson, a longtime member of the Chipley community, passed away on August 21, 2026, weeks shy of her 98th birthday.
Born on September 10, 1928, Lola was the daughter of Albert F. Davis Sr. and Letha T. Reynolds. She grew up alongside her brother, Albert F. “Sonny” Davis, Jr, and sisters, Arlene Shaw, Evelyn Bylsma, and Libby Pape.
Lola married Louie F. Carlile, with whom she built a family and a business that became a familiar part of the Chipley community for generations. Together, Lola and Louie owned and operated Carlile Jewelers beginning in 1965. Louie brought his skill as a watchmaker while Lola helped build a business known for jewelry, gifts, bridal selections, engraving, and, most importantly, personal service. Carlile Jewelers remained a fixture in the community until its closing in the early 2000s.
Following the death of Louie, Lola was blessed with the companionship of Vernon J. “Doc” Nelson, whom she married and shared another chapter of her life. Doc also preceded her in death.
Lola had a lifelong love for gardening, a passion she shared with Louie. Together, they could spend their days working in the yard from dawn until dusk, always finding a way to keep something green, blooming, and colorful throughout the year. Their yard was more than a garden it was their sanctuary, a place they lovingly tended together and one that reflected the care and pride they put into the life they built side by side.
Lola was also a devoted sports fan. She loved following her Atlanta Braves and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on.
She is survived by her three children, Jayne Carlile; Frank Carlile and his wife, Kathy; and Debbie Moss and her husband, David; her grandchildren, Colby Peel and his wife, Amber; Courtney Stanford and her husband, Jimmy; Kari Leigh Winegard and her husband, Jason; and Alan Moss; as well as six great-grandchildren.
Lola was a member of First Baptist Church of Chipley. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy spanning generations. Nearly 98 years gave her the opportunity to witness extraordinary changes in the world.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
