Lillian "Jack" Hardin, age 94 of Chipley, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at her home. Lillian, or Jack as she was known to friends and family, was born July 21, 1916 in Chipley to the late Barney and Jeanne (Rooks) Stanley. She had been a resident of Chipley most of her life. Jack received her nursing degree at Fraiser-Ellis Hospital in Dothan and as a civilian nurse, worked with enlisted nurses at Camp Rucker to train new enlistees in establishing MASH surgical units for overseas deployment during WWII. She later worked as a social worker for the State of Florida and had served as ombudsman for Nursing Homes, District 2, State of Florida. She was former city of Chipley councilwoman, the first female board member of the Washington County Hospital and served on the LPN Review committee at the Washington-Holmes Vo-Tec School. She had been a member of the First United Methodist in Chipley for over 60 years where she served as Sunday school teacher for many years. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John B. Hardin; two sisters, Jill Stanley and Mary Crisman. Survivors include; one daughter, Norma Jeanne Steverson and husband Don of Tallahassee; two grandchildren, Amy Steverson, Mary Jane "Honey" Steverson; three great grandchildren, John "J.T." Steverson, Mary Lee Steverson and Hayden "Scooter" Steverson; many devoted nieces and nephews as well as many special friends, including; Dr. Annette Porter and Covenant Hospice workers, Karen and Brandon. The family will received friends Monday, December 20, 2010 from 5:30 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church in Chipley with the Rev. Jerry May, Rev. Larry Brown and Rev. Ronnie Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
