Kenneth Michael "Mike" Sanders, age 69, of Arcadia, FL went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2011, from the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, FL. He was born in Marietta, Georgia, on April 25, 1941 to Roy and Rachel Sanders. He grew up in rural Cobb County and graduated from South Cobb High School in 1959. In 1966, he married Mary "Lee" Mundell of Arcadia, Florida. He received Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Forestry from the University of Georgia. He retired as a State of Florida Property Appraiser with the Department of Revenue in 2005. Previous to that, he owned Century 21 George Smith Realty in Arcadia and started his career as the DeSoto County Extension Agent. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #1524, and Peace River Masonic Lodge #66, all in Arcadia, Florida. He was an avid golfer and storyteller and was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Lee" Sanders of Arcadia, Florida.
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Sanders of Arcadia, Florida and Heather (Tim) Steele, of Chipley, Florida; his parents, Roy and Rachel Sanders of Smyrna, Georgia; his two sisters, Linda Scarborough of Atlanta, Georgia and Barbara Sanders of Smyrna, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Timothy, Caleb, Baylee and Ansleigh Steele all of Chipley, Florida.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 29, at Milford Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia with Dr. Marion Beaver and Rev. Tim Steele officiating and an additional Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Arcadia, Florida with Dr. Ted Land and Rev. Tim Steele officiating.
