Obituary

The journey of a lifetime began in the home of Nevil J. and Cleo Myrtis Brock of Vernon, Florida on December 30, 1942. It was on that day when their youngest child, Kenneth Melvin Brock, was born. Kenneth grew to tell of times when he went to the movie theatre in Vernon and paid a nickel for a cold drink and a movie ticket. He smiled as he shared memories growing up on a farm and spending time with his beloved parents. Kenneth had a deep respect for God, family and country. In 1961, he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served as a staff sergeant. While serving his country, Kenneth was stationed in Alamagorda, New Mexico where he met the love of his life, Mary E. Wynn. They were wed on June 19, 1964. Their marriage begat three children, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Kenneth's most valuable possessions were his faith and his family. He enjoyed fishing, farming, tinkering, and spending time with his much-loved wife and family. After 52 years of marriage, Kenneth and Mary returned to New Mexico to visit old friends and celebrate their anniversary. It was in New Mexico, where the journey with his wife began, that Kenneth's journey on Earth ended and he went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 9, 2015. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wilton J. Brock; and his sister, Willie Zell Brock. Survivors include, his wife, Mary E. Brock; sister Willie Dell Sessions; son Nevil J. Brock and wife, Melinda; daughter Elizabeth E. Pettis and husband, Dale; son Kenneth M. Brock II "Kenny" and wife, Gwen; grandson Nevil J. Brock II "Buddy" and wife, Merisha; grandsons Joshua C. and Jason P. Brock; granddaughter Hannah N. Brock; grandson Anthony A. Pettis and wife, Christine; grandson James E. Pettis and wife, Alychia; grandson Elijah J. Pettis and wife, Sadie; granddaughter Kelleth E. Halfmann and husband, Austin; granddaughter Olivia K. Brock; grandson Alexander K. Brock and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 A.M. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Liberty Church in Vernon. The service will be held at 10:00 P.M. with Pastor Dennis Boyett preaching. A graveside service will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing.
