Johnnie Dietz Swearingen, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Florida. Johnnie was born on November 20, 1931, in River Junction, Florida to her parents, Melvin and Philo Howell Dietz.

Johnnie had many fond memories of her childhood in Vernon, Florida including playing Lady Yellow Jackets Basketball at Vernon High School. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Chipley, Florida.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her sisters and brothers, Catherine Dietz Humphrey, Polly Dietz Davidson, Annette Dietz Brock, Sue Dietz Whitaker, Buddy Dietz, Jimmy Dietz and George Dietz. Johnnie was married to her beloved husband, Gene Swearingen, for 47 years prior to his death in 2004.

Johnnie is survived by her three children, Genea Kay, Daron and wife Connie, Kyle Swearingen. Johnnie dearly loved her grandchildren, Terril Underwood, Sarah Kay Underwood, Jackson Swearingen, Samantha Swearingen and her great grandchildren Madison, Mason and Matt, who also survive her.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Chipley. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. following visitation.  Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery.
