John J. Huckaby passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2014 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce, 3 brothers Chester of Bryson, NC, Howard of Tallahassee, FL and Coy of Altha, FL and one sister Lavada Gladden of Mobile, AL. John is also survived by 3 step-daughters, Maggie - husband Sean, Laura - husband Barry, and Melissa - husband Frank, along with 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Mary Grace Huckaby, brother Hiram Huckaby, and first wife Betty Sue Prescott Huckaby. John lived in Chipley most of his life and graduated from Chipley High in 1957. John was a member of the Forest Baptist Church in Hog Valley, FL and served in the Army National Guard for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked many years for and retired from Woodmen of the World where he sold insurance. There will be a Celebration of Life at Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. John's wishes were to be cremated, and his ashes will be laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery at a later date.
