Jerry Wallace Fears's Obituary

Jerry Wallace Fears, born on September 1, 1948, in Chipley, Florida, passed away on April 4, 2026, at the Washington Nursing and Rehab Center in Chipley, Florida. Jerry was a hardworking man who enjoyed many simple pleasures throughout his life.

Jerry had a deep love for fishing, farming, and gardening. He found joy in nurturing his fruit trees, which he took great pride in growing. Nature was very important to him, and he loved photography, especially taking pictures of the natural world around him. His passion for cooking shone brightly at family gatherings, where he happily fired up the grill and smoked meat for everyone to enjoy.

He was a die-hard Florida State Seminole fan and showed his spirit proudly. Music was a part of his life as well; Jerry played the guitar, sharing his love of music with those close to him.

After dedicating more than 20 years to the railroad, Jerry retired and went on to work for Washington County as a road grader. He worked hard in all his endeavors and was respected for his commitment and skill.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Athena Fears, of Chipley. He is also survived by his son, Jonathan Lee Fears, of Chipley. His family includes his sister Julie Conway and her husband Sammy of Crawfordville; his nephews John Fears Jr. and wife Joleen of Chipley, and Joshua Conway and wife Samantha of Coco Beach, his niece Emily Ann Smith of Chipley; as well as his great nephews John Carl Fears and wife Mallory, and Jackson Fears, both of Chipley. Also among his survivors is his sister-in-law Emily Fears of Chipley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Fears, and mother, Betty Pettis Fears. He also mourns the loss of his infant son, Terry Lee Fears. Jerry’s brother John Martin Fears Sr. and sister Jeniece Fears have also passed away.

Services to honor Jerry’s life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home, located at 1068 Main St in Chipley, Florida. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
