Martha S. (Jean) Johnson, age 80, passed from this life Sunday, March 6, 2016 at her home. She was born in Moultrie, GA on October 31, 1935 to James Odell and Nellie Lucille (Ganious) Slappey.


Jean worked as a secretary for Johnson Electric and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chipley, FL. She has lived here since 1959 coming from Jacksonville, FL and among her hobbies she had bowled for 48 years at Patricia Lanes and did volunteer work for the Methodist Church.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Shafter Johnson and one brother James Ervin Slappey. She was survived by her three sons; Shafter L. Johnson III and wife Berneice of Chipley, FL, Dennis Odell Johnson and friend Joyce of Graceville, FL, and Calvin Rex Johnson and wife Michelle of Enterprise, AL. One brother; Jack Odell Slappey and wife Jeanita of Quincy, FL. One sister; Stella Pritchard of Pittsburg, PA. One sister-in-law; Rebecca Carlton of Soddy-Daisy, TN, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00A.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry May and Rev. Ernie Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Ochlocknee Cemetery in Ochlocknee, GA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
