James Ray Sodders, age 64 of Chipley, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home. Mr. Sodders was born May 12, 1946 in Washington County to the late Orvin Sodders and Ida Louis (Collins) Sodders. An equipment operator, he had retired from the City of Bainbridge, Georgia and had also worked for the City of Chipley nearly 10 years. In addition to his father, he is predeceased by a son, James Ray Sodders Jr. Survivors include his mother, Ida Louise McLaughlin of Donaldsonville, Georgia; his wife of 40 years, Audery (Knight) Sodders of Chipley; one daughter, Sharon Hallman of Chipley; one brother, Paul McLaughlin Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Chipley; three sisters, Dot Whitehurst of Chipley, Mary Trawick and husband William of Donaldsonville, Ga., Marie Hurt and husband Mike of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Thomas Ray and Emilee Elizabeth Hallman; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening February 9, 2011 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Road chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. (EST), in the New Home Free Will Baptist Church in Vada, Georgia with the Rev. Ernie Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in the New Home Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
