James Donald Smith, age 70 of Chipley, FL passed from this life on Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at Bay Medical Center. Don, as his friends knew him by, was born on December 4, 1944 to the late Arthur and Eva (Kirkland) Smith in Graceville, FL. He has been a resident of Chipley for the past 20 years coming from Perry, FL where he lived for 22 years. Don was a member of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church of Chipley, he retired from the Department of Transportation, worked for Metric Engineering for 15 years and was a lifelong member of the NRA. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Frances (Kirkland) Smith of Chipley, FL, one son, Michael J. Smith and wife Kim of Newberry, FL, one daughter, Donna Smith-Ming and husband Robert of Daleville, AL, one brother Arthur Smith Jr. of Putnam County, FL, one sister Nell Hickman of Ashville, NC, two grandsons, James. M. Ming and Cole Smith. Memoralization will be by cremation. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
