James Quinton (Pete) Birdyshaw, age 95, of Chipley, Florida went to be with the Lord Jesus and his loving wife of Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Pete lived in Ocoee, Florida for more than 70 years with his wife, Dorothy. They were married 73 years as of August 13, 2023. Pete was born January 30, 1931 in Lawrenceburg, TN to James Alfred and Orbon Mae Williams Birdyshaw. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly in Ocoee, Florida.
Pete spent his working career in the citrus industry. At the age of 17, he began work at Plymouth Citrus. From there he went to work with Indian Lake Fruit Company as a fruit buyer. During his time there, he made life long friends and was well respected by fellow citrus associates throughout the state of Florida. His career continued with Southern Fruit Distributors, Inc. and P.H. Freeman &Sons, Inc. During his time with Southern Fruit, Pete established a small truck hauling company with Dorothy his wife, as the owner.
Pete is survived by his daughter: Deborah Birdyshaw Britt, son in law (James Britt, predeceased), grandson Richard Kyle Britt (Soon), granddaughter Kara M. Turk (Shannon), five great grandsons: Dylan, Tyler, and Aiden Britt, Lucas and Gavin Turk. Daughter: Judith Birdyshaw Sanders (Roger), granddaughters: Leslie Taylor, Leigh Taylor (Adam), grandson: Donald Taylor (Mandy), Adrian Sanders (Ana), four great granddaughters; Madison, Emily, and Katie Taylor, Cierra Foster, four great grandsons: Jason Martin, Jacobb and Wyatt Foster, Drew Taylor, one great grandson: Ethan Aaron Martin (predeceased). Brothers: Douglas G. Birdyshaw (Sue, predeceased) of Decatur, Alabama, sister: Julia O. Birdyshaw Smith, (Jesse, predeceased) of Franklin, Georgia. Preceded in death by brother; Walter Leo Birdyshaw, (Sue, Predeceased), sister: Mary Evelyn Birdyshaw Chambers, (Buford, predeceased). Pete had numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was known for his loving spirit, kindness and goodness. He loved people and enjoyed talking and sharing life stories. He loved the Lord Jesus.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Discover Life Church, Wausau, Florida with Pastor Mack Glover officiating.
