James Robert Baxter, age 88, passed from this life Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his home. He was born March 29, 1923 in Malone, Fl. to Addis Lee and Lola Talley Baxter. He lived most of his life in Malone until 1974 he moved to Chipley, Fl. Mr. Baxter was a well-known auto mechanic and he served in the Navy during World War II. He served as constable of Malone for years, was a member of the American Legion and worked as an Aux officer with the Highway Patrol and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department for many years. He worked at Washington County Sheriff's Department and was the Chief of Police for Chipley Police Department. He was a member of the Grace Assembly of God Church of Chipley. Mr. Baxter is preceded in death by his parents Addis and Lola Baxter of Malone, Fl. A brother Hubert Baxter of Brookville, Fl. and a sister Annie Doris Baxter of Malone, Fl. He is survived by his loving family, wife Sarah Baxter of Chipley, Fl. Two sons Rodney Baxter and wife Sam of Malone, Fl. and Charles Ray Baxter of Sneads, Fl. Three daughters Bevlyn Baxter and Sue McMillan of Malone, Fl. and Wendy Ammons and husband Brian of Ponce de Leon, Fl. 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and 4 step-grandchildren. A lot of nieces and nephews and a host of close friends. The family will receive friends Monday, February 20, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Grace Assembly @ Chipley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10 A.M. in the Grace Assembly @ Chipley with the Rev. Dallas Pettis and Rev. Keith Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Wachob-Forest Lawn Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing. Flowers will be accepted and donations can be made to Covent Hospice and the Grace Assembly of God Church.
