Obituary

Irma "Robbie" Hood Stanton, passed away on August 22, 2012, in Chipley, Florida, at the age of 90. She was born on January 7th, 1922, on the Old Cason Place in Jefferson County, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. John Hood. Robbie served in the Marine Corp during WW2 as an Aviation Machinist Mate. She married George Andrews Stanton October 6th, 1946, in Miami, Florida. In 1949, they moved to Chipley and established the Stanton Poultry Farm & Hatchery, active until 1958. Robbie continued her working career as a personal secretary at Coggin & Deermont from 1959 until 1963. She was Executive Director of Tri-County Community Council, Inc. for six years during its development phase, beginning in 1965, resigning in 1971. She began a career in real estate in 1972, as a broker-salesman with Jimmy Napier Realty and followed by opening her own business, Sun Space Realty & Investments in 1978, running until 1988. During this time she taught real estate classes at Washington-Holmes Vocational School. After her career in real estate, she decided to complete a lifelong dream and returned to college, graduating Florida State University in 1992 with a BS in Psychology, following with her master's degree in Family Relations in 1994. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chipley, Florida. Survivors include her three sons George A. Stanton, Jr.,(wife Connie) Robert F. Stanton, (wife Sheri) John S. Stanton, and one daughter Joan S. Wood, 6 grandchildren and 4 Great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at the BrownFuneral Home location at 912 Brickyard in Chipley, Florida on September 22, 2012 at 2 PM. For those wishing to convey sympathy by sending flowers, the family would prefer that donation be made in Robbie's name to a charity supporting mental health research. The family wishes to thank the staff of NWCH Long Term Care Unit for their excellent care while our mother resided there, as well as the support and love of all her many friends.
