Irma Marie Brumfield Glass, age 85, passed away in her sleep on Monday, July 31, 2023, at her home in Chipley, Florida.

She was born July 19, 1938, in Bedford, VA to the late Walton (Walter) Brumfield and Susie Pearl Spriggs Brumfield. As a young child, her father was a sharecropper and lived in various places throughout Virginia. She attended Gretna High School in Gretna, VA.

She loved sewing, reading, word search puzzles, watching soap operas and wrestling. She had a big heart and loved helping people. She worked as a volunteer for many years at Washington County Nursing Home in Chipley as well as Kate M. Smith Elementary School. Her work at the school became her passion and at the age of 50, she proudly received her GED so that she could become a teacher’s aide and then a teacher’s assistant working with Special Education Students at Kate M. Smith. After retiring from working full-time, she was called upon as a substitute teacher for the Washington County School District.

Mrs. Irma met her match 58 years ago in Atlanta, GA. A single mother of 2 children, she fell in love and married this young man who was brave enough to take on a ready-made family. She is survived by her husband, Donnie V. (Tex) Glass, of Chipley, FL and their children. Daughter, Kathy Meeks Hethcox of Tallahassee, FL, and sons, Ricky Fowler of Cottonwood, AL, Jimmie Glass of Jacob, FL, and Robbie Glass of Chipley, FL. She loved and adored her family which included 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include her sister, Louise Everett if Cornelia, GA, and brothers, George (Bonnie) Brumfield of Providence, NC, Frank Brumfield of Summerfield, NC, Carroll (Dora) Brumfield Sr. of Stokesdale, NC, and Wayne (Janice) Brumfield of Grand Saline, TX. She was blessed with multiple friends that she adopted as family.
