Obituary

Herman was born September 20, 1928 near De Bruce, New York. He was the oldest of 6 children belonging to Maynard and Hazel (Vandermark) Davis. Most of his childhood was spent in Livingston Manor, New York where he attended and granduated from the local high school. During this period of time, he enjoyed hunting and racing the automobiles which he himself built and drove. He, like his father, was a master butcher for the A&P Grocery chain. He enlisted in the Air Force, attending several different technical schools. He was one of the pioneers in the research and development of the missile and space age programs. While stationed at Lowery Air Force Base, he met and married June, in the latter part of 1952. Immediately afterward, they were transferred to Patrick Air Force Base while he served the remainder of his enlistment. It was during this time he became disabled, changing his life completely. This kept him from continuing his normal life style. During these many years, he was in constant pain and began to be crippled, but he always kept trying as best his body would allow him to do so. He was a kind man, strict but gentle in his own way to his children of five Lawayne, Lloyd, Gary, Gwenda, and Herman Jr. From these five, there was sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Herman had two sisters Betty Krum of De Bruce, NY and Jean Stephensen of Livingston Manor, NY, three brothers Maynard Davis of Neversink, NY, Carl Davis of Livingston Manor, NY and Robert Davis of Northbranch, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents Maynard and Hazel Davis, his wife June Davis, one son Lawayne Davis, and one niece Anita Krum. Herman was a very knowledgeable man in several different fields of life. He was always available if someone needed advice or a helping hand. He was an avid reader which helped occupy himself when his body said, enough for this day. He taught his family some of his immense knowledge, making their ways of life easier for each of them. With his family, he leaves his memories and love of a devoted father to each of them in their own way. We will miss you Poppa, but you will be with us in our every breath of every day, month and year always. May God keep you for us. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
