Obituary

Hazel Marie Pippin, born on January 13, 1926, in Wausau, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Florida. She was 100 years old.

Hazel dedicated much of her life to caring for children, serving as the Director at Imagination Station Daycare in Tallahassee, Florida for over 25+ years. Her work there touched the lives of many families in the community, and during those years, both her grandson Jim and granddaughter Terri were part of the daycare staff, sharing in her commitment to nurturing young minds. Each of her grandchildren lived with her while attending Florida State University, highlighting the close and supportive bond they shared.

Family was the heart of Hazel’s world. She had a deep love for her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Hazel took great joy in watching her family grow and flourish. In addition to her professional and family life, Hazel loved spending time working in her yard and tending to her flower garden. Her green thumb brought beauty and peace to her home. Hazel was a faithful member of Orange Hill Baptist Church, where she found strength and comfort through her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.She moved back to Chipley, Florida, in 2000 from Tallahassee, Florida, returning to the community she loved.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Wanda Sapp and husband Aubrey, her grandchildren Jim Sapp and wife Jennifer, Terri McDowell and husband Matt, and her great-grandchildren Austin Sapp and wife Heidi, Abby Sapp, Avery Sapp, Riley Lowe, and Cameron Lowe. They carry forward her love and legacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Pippin, and her parents, Alex and Sally Mercer Miller.

A visitation will be held on April 11, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Orange Hill Baptist Church, located at 3485 Gainer Road, Chipley, Florida. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location starting at 2:00 PM with Pastor Phillip Gainer officiating. Interment will follow in Wausau Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Hazel will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a beloved member of her church and community. Her kindness, faith, and dedication remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
