Obituary

Thomas Gerald Holley's earthly life ended on February 25, 2016 when he went home to be with the Lord at the age of 73. He was born in Florala, AL on December 30, 1942 to Dr. W.E. Holley Sr. and Hallie (Weeks) Holley.

Gerald grew up the youngest of four in DeFuniak Springs. After graduating from Walton County High School, he moved to Gainesville where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology before receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1968. He then became a resident of Chipley, FL where he practiced law for more than forty years.

During his career he served as attorney for both Washington and Holmes Counties, Washington County School Board, Chipola College District Board of Trustees, and the Tri-County Community Council. He also worked as an Assistant State Attorney for ten years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as the Chairman of the Deacons for many years. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time on the water and in the woods fishing and hunting with friends and family. As an active alumni of the University of Florida his passion for Gator athletics was present throughout his life and was passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Gerald was a loving family man and is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Rexanne Yates Holley of Chipley, FL, his daughter, Melissa Holley Painter, her husband Tom, and children Rex and Eli of Pensacola, FL, daughter Heather Leanne Holley of Gainesville, FL, son William Rex Holley, his wife Nancy, and children Audrey, Cray, and Hill of Chipley, FL, sister Marjorie Pickett of Melbourne, FL, nephew Don and niece Lynn, brother Dr. Edward Holley and wife Barbara of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and nephew Ward, brother Ben Holley and wife Pam of Crestview, FL and niece Angie. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Chipley, FL with pastor Mike Orr officiating. The family will be receiving visitors at the church at 2:00 PM.
