Obituary

George Franklin Williams passed away peacefully in his home on October 19, 2022. George was born on April 9, 1931 in Chipley, Florida. He was married 63 years to Bonnie Williams, who he referred to as the love of his life. Bonnie passed before him on April 1, 2015. George is survived by his son, George Alan Williams and wife Vicky along with his daughter Judy Williams Hayes and husband Daryle (deceased). He is also survived by his grandchildren Celena Hayes, Jesse Williams, Carly Williams, Patrick Williams, and wife Corey Dunn, Phillip Bunting and wife Angie. His great grandchildren, Alex Caudill and husband Taylor, Ashley Bunting, Connor Dunn, and Noah Hayes-Birge.

His parents were George Buford Williams and Fanny Swindle Williams both deceased. He had 3 brothers, Erlin "Red" Williams and wife Jean (both deceased), Herbert Williams and wife Sarah (both deceased) and is survived by his youngest brother Tom Williams whose wife was Trudy(deceased). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ronnie McDaniel and wife Dale and sister-in-law Cricket McDaniel. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His favorite things to do were traveling with his wife Bonnie and playing golf. He and Bonnie often invited family and friends to join them when traveling.

George graduated from Chipley High School in 1949. He was in the United State Navy from 1949-1953 where he served aboard the minesweeper, USS Zeal, AM-131, during the Korean War. While in the Navy he went to Kwajalein for 14 months, Pearl Harbor (4 times), Japan, Korea, and Midway. He returned to Chipley, FL where he was the Deputy Sherriff in Washington County from 1953-1956. George worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Pensacola and Chipley from 1956-1990 and retired after 35 years and 3 months.

George was a Deacon at Holmes Creek Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director, taught youth Sunday school, served as the Brotherhood Director, and sang in the choir. He also volunteered and served on the Board of Directors, Club Chalet Homeowners Association, Inc. in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where he also served as President for 4 years. He was on the Board of Directors, Washington County Council on Aging from 1985 to 2012. During this time, he also served in the role of President and Vice President.

George was known for his sincere and devoted love for his wife Bonnie. He found peace in knowing that he would join her again. His family finds peace knowing he has now joined Bonnie to be with the Lord.

The funeral service for George will be held 2:00P.M. Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00P.M. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Chapel.

Flowers are welcomed by the family as well as donations to Gideon's Bibles and Holmes Creek Baptist Church.
