Farrell L. Nelson, age 97 of Chipley, died Sunday, July 5th 2009 in the Flowers Hospital in Dothan. Born to John Wesley and Eva (Harrell) Nelson on June 16th, 1912, he was a native and life-long resident of Washington County. Mr. Nelson was a self employed farmer and a member of the New Orange Baptist Church. He was Soil Conservation Supervisor for 55 years, a member of the Washington County School Board for 20 years, co-founder of the Washington County Watermelon Festival and a member of Chipley Kiwanis for over 34 years, with a 31 year perfect attendance record. He is predeceased by his Wife of 74 years Caribel Nelson. Survivors include one Daughter; Catherine Nelson of Chipley and one Brother; Dr. Donald Nelson of Chipley. Two Grandchildren; Robert Holland of Chipley and John Holland of Vernon. Three Great Grandchildren; Janea Holland and Ansley Holland of Vernon and Jennifer Holland of Bonifay. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 11th, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Chapel with the Rev. Alcus Brock and Rev. David Darrow officiating. Interment will follow in New Orange Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services. Brown Funeral Home of Chipley is in charge of the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the New Orange Baptist Church or the Kiwanis "Take Stock in Children Scholarship Fund".
