Eugene E. (Gene) Hardy, age 92, passed from this life Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Henry County Health and Rehab Center in Abbeville, AL. He was born in Orlando, FL on September 4, 1923 to Milford D. and Julia Annie (Squires) Hardy. Gene moved to Chipley, FL in 1959. He was part owner of Hoovers Milling Company in Bonifay. After selling his interest in the mill, he was owner and operator of a heavy equipment business building ponds and clearing land. In 1974 he and Mrs. Hardy opened Hardy House Diner in Chipley. In 2000 he moved to Skipperville, AL. He enjoyed volunteering for the Veterans Administration. Mr. Hardy was predeceased in death by his parents, his wife Helen E. Hardy, one daughter Cherryl Morris, and three brothers Laymond Millage Hardy, Harold Liston Hardy and James Earl Hardy. He was survived by his children Cherry Hall and husband Eugene of Chipley, FL, Bert Hardy and wife Sharon of Chipley, FL, Julia Gassett and husband Michael of Skipperville, AL. One son-in-law Brad Morris of Baltimore, Maryland. One special friend Melanie Prewitt of Milton, FL. One brother Delbert Hardy and wife Clara of Miramar Beach, FL, one sister JoAnn Whitney and husband Lawrence of Tullahona, Tennessee, 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Hodges and Rev. Brad Morris officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Hardy Cemetery in Vernon, FL.
