Obituary

Etha Mae Weeks Owen went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2010 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital with her family at the bedside.
She was born in Holmes County, Florida on May 28, 1917 to Mary (Maggie) Kirkland Weeks and Alonzo Polk Weeks. Mrs. Owen grew up in the Holmes Creek area and taught school locally for several years before joining her husband in operating a furniture business, from which they later retired. She was a charter member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Chipley, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Owen; an infant son, Ernest Franklin Owen, Jr.; her parents, Alonzo Polk Weeks and Mary (Maggie) Kirkland Weeks; two brothers, Alonzo Polk Weeks, Jr. and John Wesley Weeks; and two sisters, Gracie Miller and Loraine Gouaux.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Flossie and Thomas Porter of Chipley and Freda and Ralph Toole of Chipley; one sister, Magdalene Pettis of Bonifay, four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Chipley on Sunday, April 18, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Chipley on Monday, April 19, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ben Hull and Reverend Michael Orr officiating. Interment will follow at the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing.
