IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deliah Sullivan
Coleman
September 21, 1929 – October 29, 2022
Deliah Sullivan Coleman, born September 21, 1929 in Ozark, Alabama to Fonzo Lee "Frank" and Lola Laws Sullivan.
We moved around a lot during the early years, always in Georgia or Alabama. One year I attended three different schools. In 1945 we moved to Chipley, Florida in the middle of my 10 th grade school year. I graduated in 1947 and attended Campbell Business College in Dothan, Alabama. My first job was a secretary to Mr. James N. Daniel, an attorney in Chipley. I worked for him until March of 1950.
Upon moving to Chipley I had met Crayton Coleman and we began dating when I was a junior and he was a senior. He graduated in 1946 and went into the Navy where he served for two years. After getting out of the Navy he began attending Auburn University. In 1950 we were married and moved to Auburn for him to continue his education. I worked for Dr. Paul Irvin, head of Research Interpretation Department. After graduating from Auburn we moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he pursued his Masters Degree. I worked in the State Home Demonstration Office for Miss Anna Mae Skipper.
In January of 1952, we moved back to Chipley where he had accepted a teaching job. We were expecting our first child. I worked for Mr. Colly V. Williams as a Secretary at Chipley High School until our son was born. I became a stay at home mom, which was my choice and had always been. Our first daughter, Carol was born in August 9, 1954. Our second daughter Celia was born April 2, 1960. Our third daughter, Amy was born September 22, 1967. We built our present home in the country and moved into it in 1957. I have never regretted being a stay at home mom.
Along with her parents Deliah is preceded in death by her husband, Crayton Coleman. Survivors include, son, Thomas Britt Coleman and wife Joy, daughters, Carol Coleman Schimpf and husband Marcel, Celia Coleman Everman and husband Mark and Amy Coleman Koch.
