Obituary

David Thomas Pettis Sr. was born on August 6, 1960 to Jake & Edna Myrl Pettis.  David left the earthly world and entered his Heavenly Reward on June 6, 2025 surrounded by his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jake" Pettis & Edna Myrl Pettis, and his sister Joyce Elizabeth Carmichael.

David Sr. is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 44 years, Cynthia "Cindy" Phillips Pettis, sons, David Thomas Pettis Jr. and wife, April, and John Phillip Pettis and wife, Ashley.  David is also survived by his grandchildren who were the light of his life,: Grandsons: Landen Dwayne, Cy Nathaniel, Jake Lee, Kiptyn Phillip, John-William Rafe, and Granddaughter: Adrian Trena LaDawn (Connor) and one great-grandson, Cash Hayes.  David's surviving siblings are Dennis Lee Finch (Terri), Donald Ray Finch (Desiree'), Danny Earl Pettis (Terisa), and life-long best friend, Timmy Smack Odom (Lori).  David is also survived by a large host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and Aunt Ruth Helen Thomas.

David was one of the most hard-working men anyone could ever meet.  He gave everything he did 100% effort, and if he couldn't do it just right, it wasn't worth doing at all.  Some might say he was hard-headed and stubborn, and if you knew him…. well, you knew him. He was a John Deere Man, and if you saw him out and about, unless he was headed to church, he had his trademark green and yellow cap on.  He was the kind of man that spoke his mind and you always knew where you stood with him.  When he decided that he liked someone, they usually would receive a nickname and an occasional "bonk" on the head.  David was one of the most loving and tender-hearted men.  He loved and provided for his family well. He made sure his boys knew what it meant to put in a hard day's work and to do a job they could be proud of.  He and Cindy raised their boys to know The Lord, and to keep Jesus Christ first in all things.   David's grandchildren have always been the pride of his life.  His eyes would light up and even leak a little when he would begin talking about something one of them had said or did.  He showed up.  He was there for ball games, band concerts, plays, and award ceremonies.  He loved spending time with his family.   Even when David's mind began to fail him in his last couple of years, he may not could have called his family by name, but he knew who they were and would lovingly shake his finger at them, smile and laugh at them, or say something along the lines of "you knucklehead".

The family will receive friends at Grace Assembly @ Chipley for visitation on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 1:30 pm with the service immediately following at 3 pm.  A private graveside service will be held on a later date.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their prompt and tender care.
