Daniel G. Hasty. Our beloved husband, father and papa, Danny Hasty, left us to join our Lord on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Danny was born on September 21, 1942, in Holmes County, but he was raised and spent much of his life in Washington County. After graduating from Chipley High School in 1960, he began his 49-year law enforcement career by joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. In 1962, Danny returned to Florida, joining the Florida Sheriff's Bureau, which later became the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Danny spent his entire law enforcement career as a specialist in forensic sciences, and was one of the world's most respected latent fingerprint experts. He was a life member and past President and Chairman of the Board of the International Association for Identification. Shortly before his death he received the Sustained Achievement Award from the Florida Division of the International Association for Identification. He spent 30 years with the FDLE in Tallahassee, and during that time was instrumental in a number of well publicized criminal trials, including testifying personally in the trials of Theodore Robert Bundy for the Chi Omega murders and the Lake City, Florida murder of Kimberly Diane Leach. His FDLE career led him to testify in criminal trials in 66 of Florida's 67 counties and supervised all aspects of the state's criminal forensic laboratory system. Danny retired from FDLE after 30 years and returned from Tallahassee to Chipley to become Sheriff of Washington County from 1993 to 1997. After his term as Sheriff, he served as a special independent advisor to the FBI for forensic laboratory matters, and became a key member of the product development team for Printrak Corporation's laser-based automated fingerprint recording, database and review system. He taught courses across the United States and around the world on the deployment and use of this system, including in Sweden, Denmark, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Panama, Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil.

Danny was an active member of First Baptist Church of Chipley, and had been a deacon and Sunday school teacher throughout his adult adult life. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Kathryn Burdeshaw Hasty, his son, Michael Hasty of Chipley, son-in-law Todd Villella and granddaughters Sarah Villella and Emily Villella, all of Tallahassee. He joins in heaven his beloved daughter, Melissa "Missey" Hasty Villella, his parents, Preston and Beatrice Hasty, his sister, Eleanor Hasty Wilson, and brother, Winford Hasty. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October, 5th at 11:00 A.M. at Frist Baptist Church in Chipley with Rev. Mike Orr officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends Monday October 4th at Brown Funeral Home Brickyard Road Chapel from 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Friends and family may sign the online register at www.brownfh.net

We will miss him.
