Obituary

Curtis E. Saunders, age 86, passed from this life on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 9, 1933 to Rev. Clarence E. and Gladys (Smith) Saunders. Hurricane Michael did much damage to his home so he relocated to Grandview Assisted Living in Bonifay, FL.

Curtis graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, FL and went on to Southern Tech now know as Kennesaw State University.  After college he spent 2 years in the United States Army primarily stationed in Germany repairing radios in helicopters.  After his service in the military he went on to work at Lanier Milner for 38 ½ years in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  When he retired he moved to Panama City where he lived for 25 years and enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, especially with his elaborate train display.  He was the Ultimate "Fix It" Man.

He was a member of the City Church at North side while living in Panama City and was affiliated with St. John's Free Will Baptist Church that meets at Grandview since he moved there. Curtis was ordained as a Deacon in 1963. He taught Sunday school and training union Class in younger years. He was a faithful member of Steve Cook's Sunday School Class at City Church. Curtis firmly believed in and practiced giving tithes and offering to his church and other charities along with doing a daily devotional with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his Parents; Rev. Clarence E. and Gladys Smith Saunders, his sisters; Lillian Saunders, Annise Saunders Rhodes and husband Joe Ben, His beloved Aunt; Voca Smith,  and his niece; JoAnn Rhodes Bridges. Curtis is survived by his wife of 57 years; Myra Porter Saunders, nephews; Claude Bridges and wife Arlene of Orlando, FL, great nephews; Brad Hoffmanna and wife Amita, Bobby Bridges and wife Shelly, Danny Bridges and wife Bethany, and Mike Bridges and wife Jaime, many. Brown Funeral Home of Chipley, FL is in charge of arrangements.
