Obituary

Cloys C. Joiner Sr., a respected minister, devoted husband, and cherished family man, passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 87, on the farm in Chipley, Florida, where he spent the majority of his life. He was born on August 4, 1938, in Chipley, Florida, to O.D. Joiner and Evelyn Monk Joiner.

Cloys’s faith journey began at a young age when he was saved at 9 years old at Sapp Church. His calling to ministry emerged soon after, and by the age of 19, he was preaching his first sermon. It was during this pivotal moment that he met Eva Mae McKinnie, the love of his life. Although their first encounter required Eva to leave after the sermon, Cloys was determined and followed her to ask for her hand in marriage within a week. Their union was blessed with 67 years of love and partnership.

Throughout his life, Cloys dedicated himself not only to farming, a passion that brought him joy and a deep connection to his roots, but also to serving his community. After working at the Chipley Piggly Wiggly for 12 years, he contributed 28 years to the Florida Department of Transportation in mapping, all while actively ministering to his congregations. His pastoral journey saw him lead Mt. Olive Assembly, Sapp Church, and Faith Covenant, where he was known for his compassion and commitment to his church members. He retired from preaching at the remarkable age of 85, leaving a legacy of faith and devotion.

Cloys was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, deeply adored by his family. His children, Curby Joiner and Vivian Perkins, and his son-in-law Hubert, along with his brothers Oral Joiner and Bay Joiner and their wives Laura and Carolyn, remain to cherish his memory. His grandchildren, Jennifer Bell, April Johnson and her husband David, and Will Perkins and his wife Katrina, will carry forth the love he imparted, along with his eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his remarkable family, Cloys is predeceased by his beloved wife, Eva Mae Joiner; his parents O.D. and Evelyn Joiner; his siblings Betty Sue Sisson and husband Ken, his sister-in-law Betty Joiner; and his grandson Brett Bell.

A graveside service to celebrate Cloys’s life will take place on March 7, 2026, at 3:00 PM, at Rock Hill Church Cemetery, located at 339 Rock Hill Church Road, Cottondale, FL 32431. Cloys C. Joiner Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and commitment to family and community that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice and to her niece Stephanie Green.
