Obituary

Christine Savell, 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital. Christine was born Hildred Christine Davis on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1919, in Southeast Alabama, close to Headland. She was the youngest child of three born to William Richard Davis and Tommie Pearl Blount Davis. Her childhood was that of a typical rural farm family of that time with very little formal education, scant wordly goods, and high moral standards. Her father passed away when she was about 6-7 years old, but the family survived because of close family ties. On November 29, 1939, she married Hollis Bruce Savell from nearby Donaldsonville, Georgia, whose background was similar to hers. This new family also became farmers, sharecropping in several areas of southeast Alabama. On October 24, 1940, their first and only child was born, Hollis Savell, Jr… a MaMa's boy of all MaMa's boys! The family continued their farm life until 1953(except for the interruption of WWII in the 40's, when Bruce served his country). But in 1953 they moved to central Florida, where Bruce worked in the citrus industry and then in the phosphate industry in the area close to to Bartow, Florida. That was the best move this little family ever made… a regular weekly income with regular hours! In 1993 Christine's husband, Bruce, passed away after a fatal heart attack, and Christine moved to Chipley. She lived in Sherwood Apartments just down Brickyard Road until April of 2009, when she fell and broke a hip, resulting in a length hospitalization. Mrs. Savell was survived by one son; Hollis Bruce Savell, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Chipley, Florida, Three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, December 31, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Graveside at Glenwood Cemetery with Reverend Tim Evans officiating. The Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. in Brown Funeral Home Chapel (Main Street).Friends and family may sign the online register at www.brownfh.net.
