Cecil Taylor, age 82 of Chipley, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his home. Cecil was born April 19, 1928 in Chipley, to the late Frank and Bertie (Rudd) Taylor. He was a former National Guard member and U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. A boiler maker by trade, Cecil had retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He had been a resident of Chipley for the past 27 years, coming from Charleston, South Carolina and Lynn Haven, Florida, and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Jackson County, Fla. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Shirley (Pleas)Taylor of Chipley; two sons, Cecil LeRoy Taylor and Special Friend, Kwo-Jen Gibson of Biloxi, Miss. And Jeff Lee of Chipley; five daughters; Kay Loraine Withrock and husband Eddie of Charleston, S.C., Karol Lynn Coker and husband Bill of Ladson, S.C., Beverly Cates of Chipley, Lori Monk and husband Scotty of Bonifay, Sonja Granger and husband Kevin of Cottonwood, Alabama; three brothers, Lavon Taylor of Panama City, Fla., Glendal Taylor of Prattville, Ala. and Hayward Taylor of Southport, Fla.; one sister, Lottie Mae Wood of Lynn Haven; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Road Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley.
