Catherine (Jones) Friend, age 73 of Wausau, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was born January 2, 1940 in Malvern, Alabama to the late Willie Wilmer and Callie (White) Boyett. She had been a resident here most of her life. Catherine had retired as a Unit Secretary with Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. A volunteer with Covenant Hospice for the past four years, she had twice received the Volunteer of the Year award. Catherine dearly loved her family and friends as wellas her passion for working in her flower gardens. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, W.R. Jones, two brothers, Ernest Boyett and Leroy Boyett; two sisters, Evelyn Gossage and Ellen Hart. Survivors include; two daughters, Christine Jones Parr and husband Ronnie of Suwannee, Florida and Brenda Childree and husband Tim of Lynn Haven, Florida; one sister, Syble Culp and husband Harry of Prattville, Alabama; three grandchildren, Kimberly Gourley and husband Steve, Amanda Nichols and Sean Nichols; one great granddaughter, Madison Gourley as well as many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel with the Rev. Robert Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Moss Hill Cemetery near Vernon.
