Obituary

Burton Wesley Wilson, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on November 23, 1933, to Lyle and Mary Strange Wilson (who passed away early in Burton's life, he was raised by Marie Weeks Wilson), growing up in Chipley, FL. After graduating Chipley High School, he attended the University of West Florida, earning a B.S. degree in Criminology.

Burton made a lasting impact on the communities he lived in through his passion for service, dedicating 3 years to the United States Marine Corp & over 27 years as a Florida Highway Patrolman (specializing in homicide investigations & polygraph services). After serving for over 30 years Burton completed his career by retiring from the Golden Peanut Company in Graceville, FL. He was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bonifay, FL. For years, Burton served in many callings of the church, always willing to help in any way that he could.

In retirement, Burton found joy in spending time with his growing family, embarking on numerous trips around the United States to spend time with his family. Burton was also a dedicated husband, spending time caring for his wife Betty in the last years of her life, never leaving her side.

From Burton's time in the service and Florida Highway Patrol, he was an avid gun enthusiast.  He excelled in marksmanship, practicing his craft with every type of firearm, from handguns to rifles, Burton was an expert shooter and shared his passion with his many grandsons, son and daughter.

Burton spent many years completing his family's genealogy records, passionate about ensuring that his relatives were all included in the completion of his family tree.  Many of those relatives were introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ through the records that Burton was able to produce over the years.

He is survived by his son Burton Wilson Jr (and wife Jodie), his daughter, LaTreva Wilson Thompson (and husband Bob), his sister Mary Fox, grandchildren: Megan Hansen (husband Alex), Malinda Hollowell (husband Montana), McKenna Erickson (husband Jake), Mylee Wilson, Kent Satterfield (wife Merriah), Ammon Williams, Jared Williams (wife Carissa), Courtney Williams, Hailey Ward (husband Matt), Whitney Crews (husband Jake); great-grandchildren, Everly, Emma, Emerson, Oaklynd, James, Wesley, Rowan, McCoy & Owen; and a host of extended family and friends. Burton's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
