Billy
Abbott
August 12, 1938 – April 4, 2026
Billy Joe Abbott, known to many as "Buck," passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 12, 1938, in Jay, Florida, and raised in the Round Lake area. Billy was a proud graduate of Cottondale High School.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Billy built a career in the storage tank construction industry working for several companies including Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, General American, and Tampa Tank and Welding. His work took him around the world , which allowed him to enjoy traveling and meet many people along the way.
Billy was a dedicated member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially deer hunting, dove hunting, and bass fishing. He also loved tending to his vegetable garden and his lemon and fig trees. These simple pleasures brought him happiness throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Abbott; his son Paul Abbott and wife Melissa; his son-in-law, Dean Wilkins; and his granddaughters Amanda, Taylor (Ryan), Tamarah (Rick), and Corrie; his grandson Will; three sisters; and twelve great-grandchildren who he adored.
His daughter, Lorrie Jean Wilkins, preceded him in death, as did his parents, Jesse and Pansy Purvis Abbott, and four siblings.
Billy’s life was marked by hard work, love for his family, and a strong connection to the land and nature. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
