Obituary

Audrey Christine Powell was born on January 21, 1950, in Tallahassee, Florida. She passed away on March 30, 2026, at Northwest Florida Community Hospital.

Audrey worked as a nurse from 1970 until 2015 at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center. She cared for many people throughout her career and was known for her kindness. She was also a die-hard fan of Florida State University. Audrey was a beloved wife, mother, and sister who always made sure to have candy ready for the children who visited her. The kids loved getting that candy from her.

She is deeply missed by her loving family. Audrey is survived by her son's Ricky Smith and Kris Humphrey both of Chipley, Florida. She is also survived by her sisters Ginny Marshall from Vernon, Florida; Karen Kent from Bonifay, Florida; Jonette Aiken from Marianna, Florida; and her brother John Humphrey and his wife Rena from Syracuse, New York. Audrey was a proud grandmother to Cammie Humphrey and a great grandmother to Oaklyn Humphrey. She had many honorary grandchildren, including Noah Hall, Allison Hall, Celie Hall, Bentley Gertchen, and Keleigh Gertchen. Audrey is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

Audrey’s family remembers those who have gone before her: her father John Humphrey, her mother Catherine (Dietz) Humphrey, her husband Wendell Powell, and her sister Donna Craft.

A special thanks goes to Emerald Coast Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

There will be a viewing on April 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at First Baptist Church, located at 1300 South Boulevard, Chipley, Florida.  A Private Interment will follow the services.  Chaplin Chris Harrison will be officiating.

Audrey Christine Powell will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to nursing, and her love for her family and friends. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
