Arcelon "Butch" J. Callais III, born on December 26, 1946, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, passed away on February 22, 2026, in Chipley, Florida. Butch lived a life filled with love and devotion to his family. He was a loving father and grandfather who always cherished spending time with his loved ones.
Butch's career as a boat captain for Tidewater in Louisiana was a significant part of his life. His dedication was recognized when the company named a boat after him upon his retirement. He loved being on the water and continued to embrace this passion throughout his life. He and his wife, Amanda, enjoyed many days together at Shell Island in Panama City Beach, Florida. Butch had a zest for life, often indulging in activities such as crabbing, gambling, and playing the slots. He never missed an opportunity to buy a lottery ticket, always embracing the thrill of chance.
In 1980, Butch moved to the Florida Panhandle after meeting Amanda in England. Their journey together was filled with wonderful memories that the family will cherish forever.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Callais; his son Sy Callais and wife Jill; his daughter Dana Truette and husband Randy; his goddaughter Wanda LeBlanc; and his sister Meyan Dufrene. Butch was a proud grandfather to Cody Truette and wife Charlie Ann, Brandon Truette and wife Mychaela, Connor Callais, Jordan Callais, Logan Callais, Ann Catherine Paulsen and Sarah Jane English, along with nine great-grandchildren.
Butch was preceded in death by his father, Arcelon Joseph Callais Jr., and his mother, Lillian Collins Callais. His legacy of love and dedication to family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
